On April 19, 2019, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released the Second Draft of Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) and extended the date for public comment to June 3, 2019.

In its release, ONC states:

“[TEFCA] outlines a common set of principles, terms, and conditions to support the development of a Common Agreement that would help enable nationwide exchange of electronic health information (EHI) across disparate health information networks (HINs). [TEFCA] is designed to scale EHI exchange nationwide and help ensure that HINs, health care providers, health plans, individuals, and many more stakeholders have secure access to their electronic health information when and where it is needed.”

Accessible documentation and instructions for submitting comments on TEFCA by June 3, 2019, are available on the ONC Website at: https://www.healthit.gov/topic/interoperability/trusted-exchange-framework-and-common-agreement.
